Warren's Trip on Route 66

Warren's reports & photographs from his two week Road Trip starting Monday 9th August at the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally, Sturgis, South Dakota. Then off to Chicago to travel the Historic Route 66 to Santa Monica, California - that's 2448 miles on his Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.
 

I only missed it by a couple of days. Could you imagine how much fun I would have had at my reunion?

This is my town. This dog Bruno almost had a bald spot from everyone stopping to pet him—it's like all the bikes and noise didn't exist.

Oh where, oh where can my little bike be…?

Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, crossing the Mississippi. It's no longer drivable; now it's used for bikers and hikers! By the way, I crossed the Mississippi 4 times—once for my friend's bike breakdown and once…well, let me just say I made a wrong turn!

What a shame…I envisioned myself with that old speaker that hooked up to the car, and popcorn!!! The last time I went to a drive-in we hid two friends in the trunk.

Remember when they washed the windows and checked the oil—what memories.

Fourteen year old Duffy, met her in Illinois where her owner sells corn and melons at a farm stand - got a hug and a kiss - from the dog!

Sammy on a tower by the Missouri River, overlooking three states. It was love at first lick!

The famous Round Barn, available for weddings and bar mitzvahs. Truly amazing but after 100 years, the owner's grandson held the same enthusiasm and spent over an hour telling and showing me every nail. So, if you see a round barn in Santa Monica, ya'all stop in

Farmer's sense of humor—1/2 tractor, 1/2 plane—called The Flying Crapper! Don't ask

Stray cat I was going to bring home but her owner owns The General Store. This kitty has a pretty good life, and after a little convincing, it will now be spayed

The blue whale in Oklahoma, famous cooling place for weary Route 66 travelers early on. Might not want to swim in the water now - but still brings a smile to everyone's face.

Charley - I fell in love, but he had a big brother in back seat that let me know Charley was HIS buddy.

Just some more jack asses I met along the way…not too often you see a herd. Note the one on the far left letting me know what he thinks.

I really did stand on the corner of Winslow, Arizona. The Eagles were right—"What a fine place to be."

El Rancho Hotel - very famous stop for celebrities while filming in Gallup, New Mexico. If these walls could talk…very rustic…worth the stop.

Dakota - he was moving to Santa Fe with his new family. He was just adopted a few days ago

We had a long talk…by the time I arrived here, we looked like brothers. Actually the front of the Route 66 Museum.
